Have you ever felt the need to sell off your car for some quick money? A lot of us have perhaps an old car which we would like to sell, but, unsure of a lot of things, we just do not make the effort. And, even if we do, we often end up getting a bad bargain because we did not research much. In this article, let's look at the top five things you should do before selling your car for cash.
1. Check Your Market - It is true, a lot of times you would be able to tell a good deal from a bad one just by checking out the market. All you should do is look at the prices of the cars, focusing on the type you want to sell. Remember, even cars which you "think" might be junk is perhaps not so. Here are a few quick thoughts - family cars like big sedans and SUVs are virtually always in demand, while sports cars are sold more during summer. Similarly, vans and bigger vehicles are also quite consistently in demand, so check out their pricing before you sell yours. Remember, if you are trying to sell off that 1958 Corvette you so prize, it might not be so easy, as vintage cars have few buyers, and those who come forward might be intent on cheating you out of a great deal.
2. Estimate a Generic Idea about Your Car - This is a pretty important step before you think of selling your car. First of all, you should make a general assessment of the color and make of your car, any visible (and invisible) repairs needed, the distance travelled, and other details which can be called positive. Do not ignore the negative aspects of the car as well! Think of the pros and cons soundly before you make any estimates about the value of the car.
3. Make a Calculated Guess about Your Car's Value - make that guess today! Check out more than one (at least three, by our estimate) similarly made vehicles in top car sales sites, and make an educated guess from there. Generally, if you see prices are more or less same in most of the places, then see if the result matches the amount of money you want to get after selling the car.
4. Make another Person Take a Look - by that, we mean a third-party, who can give you an unbiased opinion about your car. You might find your car to be flawless, but the truth is there are many problems that might not be visible to your loving and very biased eye. A third-party can make sure you see the car from both positive and negative angles.
5. Make Your Car Appealing - before you think about selling, think of the way the car can look more appealing to the buyer. Clean the car inside out, and if possible, give it a good waxing so that it shines. Also, if you think some repairing will help, go for a set of low-cost repairing. In all, make sure your car looks its best before being shown to the prospective buyer.
